LGBTQ+ Affirmative

Even with all your success and amazing life experiences, you might still feel like you're not good enough. Maybe it's because your culture, community, or even your family made you believe that. So, despite all the validation you've received, small rejections still sting, and you find yourself constantly comparing yourself to others. It’s tough to feel truly confident as your authentic self, and you might wonder why you’re not thriving as much as you could be.

You Don't Have to Stay Stuck.

“On the other side [of therapy] is a life feeling confident and good about yourself.”

You’ve probably heard that before, along with other promises of happiness and contentment.

This one is different.

When I first sought therapy, I found myself feeling unseen and misunderstood. While I was offered some useful tools for the issues I was struggling with, my identity as a gay man was ignored.

The truth is that not many therapists understand the unique needs of our community. So, we often end up hiding in therapy—a space where we need be fully seen.

I strongly believe that if you have to leave part of yourself at the door, you’re in the wrong room.

I have developed my own method for treating the LGBTQ+ community.

My method synthesizes the best of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including CBT, EMDR and attachment theory, that specifically targets the needs of our community.

My goal isn’t to tell you what to do.

My goal is to meet you where you’re at, learn about what makes you unique, and help you create the life you truly want to live.

You can experience a life where you feel like you’re thriving inside and out.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is “LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy,” and how is it different from regular therapy?
This is a great question. In traditional therapy, a therapist may not explicitly share their stance on LGBTQ+ issues, which can leave clients guessing—or hoping—that they’re accepted. LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy is different. It involves an active, intentional stance: the therapist openly identifies as an ally to the queer community and integrates that support into their clinical work. In short, it’s an active stance, not a passive one—and that can make all the difference.

How will I know if a therapist is truly LGBTQ+ friendly?
Ideally, they’ll make that clear upfront. But if not, you can absolutely ask. Feel free to ask whether they’ve worked with LGBTQ+ clients before, whether they consider themselves LGBTQ+ affirmative, and how they incorporate queer-affirming principles into their practice. A good therapist will welcome these questions—and answer them honestly.

If we’ve had a bad experience with therapy before, should we try again?
Yes. It’s very common for people to have a rough first experience with therapy, especially if the therapist wasn’t a good fit. But one bad match doesn’t mean therapy isn’t for you. There are many different therapists with different styles, identities, and approaches. The therapeutic relationship is everything—so don’t give up. With time and care, you can find someone who truly gets you.

How do we find a therapist who understands our intersectional identities—like race, culture, or religion?
All therapists should be attuned to intersectionality, because therapy should be a space where every part of your identity is seen and honored. That includes your race, culture, spirituality, gender identity, and lived experiences. Unfortunately, many clients are used to hiding pieces of themselves in everyday life. Therapy should be the exact opposite—a place to show up fully and feel understood in your entirety.

After years of specialized clinical training working with the LGBTQ+ community, I've developed my own method for treating our unique needs. My method is based not only on therapeutic expertise, but on my own experience as an out gay man. My goal isn’t to tell you what to do. My goal is to help you create the life you want to live.
