About Michael Pezzullo, LMFT
Gay Men's Therapist & Relationship Coach
I didn’t come to this work only as a clinician—I came to it through my own experience in therapy.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years navigating my own mental health challenges within a difficult family dynamic. Like many gay men, I learned early on how to survive emotionally before I ever learned how to feel safe, connected, or understood. At the time, I was skeptical of therapy and unsure how talking to a stranger could lead to real change.
What shifted everything was finding the right therapist—someone who was direct, emotionally attuned, and able to help me understand patterns I had been repeating for years. Therapy stopped feeling abstract and started feeling grounding and purposeful. That experience ultimately led me to pursue this work myself.
Today, I’m a licensed gay therapist in Los Angeles, specializing in trauma, addiction, relationships, and the mental health of gay men and LGBTQ+ individuals. My approach blends lived experience with clinical training, allowing me to work with clients in a way that is both compassionate and structured.
As a gay men’s therapist based in Los Angeles, I understand the unique pressures many queer men face—shame, identity stress, relational patterns, and the long-term effects of growing up without emotional safety or affirmation. Much of my work focuses on helping clients make sense of these experiences so they can stop repeating old cycles and begin building lives that feel more authentic and sustainable.
I believe therapy should be relational, intentional, and clear. My goal isn’t just symptom relief—it’s to help you understand yourself more deeply, build emotional resilience, and create lasting change that extends beyond the therapy room.
If you’d like to stay connected to these ideas, I also share occasional reflections on dating, relationships, and emotional patterns in gay men.

Who I Work Best With
Growth Requires Honest
I work best with gay men who want depth, not surface-level validation. Many therapists working with gay men focus only on affirmation. Affirmation is important. But growth requires more than agreement.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Do you work specifically with gay men and LGBTQ+ clients?
Yes. Working with gay men and LGBTQ+ individuals is central to my practice. I specialize in the unique emotional, relational, and identity-related challenges that often come with navigating life as a queer person.
2. What is your approach to therapy like?
My style is active, honest, and collaborative. I combine clinical training with lived experience, focusing on clarity, structure, and understanding the patterns that keep you stuck—rather than offering generic advice or quick fixes. I also incorporate EMDR to help process trauma and attachment wounds.
3. What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?
Many of the clients I work with have been in therapy before. Our work often focuses on why previous approaches felt unhelpful and what needs to be different for therapy to feel more grounding, effective, and meaningful.
4. Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on before starting?
No. Part of the work is helping you clarify what’s going on and what you want to change. You don’t need perfect insight to begin—just a willingness to explore.
5. How do I get started?
I offer a free 15-minute consultation to help us get to know each other. You can ask questions, share what’s bringing you in, and get a feel for how I work. From there, if it feels like a good fit, we’ll set up a plan tailored to your goals.
6. Do you offer in-person and/or virtual sessions?
I offer both.
• In-person therapy in West Hollywood, California
• Virtual therapy for clients in California and Florida
• Coaching nationwide & internationally.
If you’re unsure whether therapy or coaching is right for you, we can clarify that together.
